Dr. Christy Schlegel

Dr. Christy Schlegel grew up on a small farm in Indiana and attended high school in her parents' hometown of Clay City, Indiana. She has had a lifelong fascination with animals and nature, so biology was a natural track for her to follow. She earned her bachelor's degree in biology with an area certificate in environmental studies and Phi Beta Kappa induction from Indiana University Bloomington. While she was an undergraduate at IU, she volunteered at College Mall Veterinary Hospital. As soon as her studies at IU were completed, she made the move north to West Lafayette to study veterinary medicine.

While a veterinary student at Purdue, she led the chartering of a student chapter of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and was president of the club in its first year. She went on to receive the senior student award from the AAFP for Proficiency and Interest in Feline medicine, an award is given to one senior at each veterinary college in the country. She also was inducted into Phi Zeta, the veterinary academic honor society, as a third-year student. During her senior year, she spent five weeks doing her off-campus rotation at CMVH.

After receiving her DVM degree, Dr. Schlegel returned to Bloomington where she has provided veterinary care for dogs and cats for the past 20 years. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. She is also a volunteer and foster parent for the Great Lakes Bengal Rescue.

In her free time, she enjoys backpacking, knitting, and basking in the outdoors. Dr. Schlegel, her wfie Kelly and their family provide catering and housekeeping duties to the three cats and two dogs who are really in charge. She looks forward to meeting you.
